Fantasy Island... elections doubts...

Imagine a normal election in a normal country where Mr. Smith, candidate of the political party A gets elected and chooses to defect to party B (at the opposition of the party that hosted him in the list). In the meantime Mr. Smith decides to run for another mayoral election and, once again, wins becoming mayor. According to the law of the country, Mr. Smith has to decide which of the two incompatible roles to keep: MP or Mayor? If Mr. Smith accepts the mayoral role, Mr. Jones, the next on the list of non elected, should enter the assembly, Mr. Jones is still a member of Party A. This means that if Mr. Smith gives his place up, Party B will lose a member amongst the ranks and facilitates Party A to have an extra member. What would anyone do? In our case, we have 3 Mr. Smith that got elected for Party A and defected to Party B and C and Mr Jones was someone added to the list of candidates just to allow Party A to have a minimum number of candidates and he got 65 votes, probably less than any person would get if voted by friends and families. I let alone how much money those 65 votes would bring but, to give you an idea, more that the President of the USA… It’s clear that the normal country is not so normal, is Italy (to be precise Sicily) and that now the mayor has taken 6 months to decide what to do, trying to agree with the Party what to do… What a bloody joke! Here is the link to the story, in Italian…
