Seen at this latitude, my country seems like an underdeveloped country that has just come out of a 100 years of dictatorship. While French people got nothing better to think about but their president’s personal affairs, Italy is still far from reaching this stage. We are still looking at democratic emergencies and no time yet to look at sexual behaviours of our politicians or their love stories.
This morning I have accessed the website of the Corriere della Sera newspaper and I read:
Mr. Mastella (Justice Minister) being investigated and his wife placed under arrests at her home place. Lady Mastella is a politican as well. The accusation are of corruption charges and many (23 as at today) members of the UDEUR centrist party are being accused and arrested.
Nothing new under the sun of corrupted Italy. But what I find new are the accusations of the Justice Minister to the judges, that reflect Mr. Berlusconi’s views after he has been placed under investigation many ma ny times since he entered politics in 1994. What it’s even worse is the fact that Mastella’s allies are showing solidarity with him, while they never did with Berlusconi, and with the usual exception of Mr. Di Pietro (former judge and main figure in the Bribesville scandal that wiped off out political class – but never completed, unfortunately) that still defends the autonomy of the magistrates.
Then I read about Benedict XVI that has been invited amid strong protests not to participate to a conference at a Roman University. The sentence that has put the German Sheppard under enemy fire has been a comment made by Ratzinger in 1990 about Feyerabend’s thought about Galileo Galilei… “The Church trial against Galileo was fair and due…”
From these two episodes alone you can understand that Italy is still trying to become a lay state. Mrs. Mastella said that the judges are attacking her and the husband because they are catholic! In Italy, folks, we are still persecuting Christians! Can you believe that?
While the Referendum to change the electoral law has been approved by the highest constitutional court the “rats” in the parliament are trying to make sure that the referendum can be avoided. They are afraid that with the referendum going ahead they might lose their comfortable chairs! I hope we will reach the referendum, even if they can still change the law before we go to vote and we will have wasted another fortune.
Other news? Ok… Capello is under investigation for tax evasion… So? Where is the news? The only news is tha AC Milan has been thrown out of Italy’s Cup by Catania, and I toast to that!
That’s all folks!
I am trying to come back to life...
