I have been asked by a friend what I think about the latest developments in the Balkans. I will be very very quick in saying that if we have to grant independence to all the states aiming to self-determination, we will have a Europe of 200 states at least. I think that in a period when we are trying to unify Europe and taking on board dogs and pigs, fragmentation is a non-sense. People should learn to co-exist in current boundaries and solutions can be reached without proclaiming independence. Kosovo has a bloody history but so the rest of Europe. I am Neapolitan and I would love to get independent from the rest of Italy and go back to what was the Kingdom of the two Sicilies, I would love to be part of Spain and have a Prime Minister like Zapatero and a king like Juan Carlos de Bourbon, but this is pure non-sense as even if I would manage to be independent from Italy, i will be always very dependent on Italy and Europe as no country or region in Europe will survive without the help and cooperation of the EU. Even the Swiss that claim to be neutral and so on had to give up this idea and are, de-facto, in the EU. So, let's cut the bullshit out and let's get real. Accepting Kosovo as a State means create previous cases for other minority groups to claim independence. A federation form between Kosovo and Serbia could have been a solution. However, make some research on the net to learn about the history of Kosovo and the way Tito treated them and you will understand that history is always written by the winners and the truth is always mystified. Yugoslavia is one of those regions that have suffered more mystification than any other country in Europe and I think that we paid back the favours of being a malleable neighbour, with a few bombs and exclusions. Milosevic has been a criminal but look at the Croatian and Slovenian squalid presidents to understand that they were no better.
